Story
Sigal Kook Avivi worked as a programmer and was about to establish a family mediation business, but she left everything and turned all her resources and energy to fight for the moral character of Israeli society. Aiming to stop the expulsion of Africans who seek asylum within Israel and allowing them to stay until they can return to their country safely.
She began to teach Hebrew to the refugees and shortly after she found herself visiting Holot facility once a week, immersed in a daily struggle to recognize asylum seekers as refugees and to improve their lives.
After human rights organizations almost gave up on fighting with the government and the High Court of Justice, which authorized the deportation to a third country - Rwanda, Sigal led a petition to the High Court of Justice with another 119 citizens. In March 2018, the High Court ordered the government to freeze the deportation process following that petition.
This short video was submitted in March 2018 to the "70 Good Reasons" video contest of the Israeli Association of Community broadcasting , in order to present a unique and inspirational figure that promotes the correction of the society in which we live and represents one of the reasons why it is still good to live in the State of Israel. The video went up against fifty other clips that were submitted to the contest and won 1st place. Language: Hebrew Subtitles: English
