Sugar and Carbohydrates for the Poor
Uploaded: 24/07/2019 Duration: 06:23 Minutes Available in Hebrew
Story
Despite the awareness of healthy food, many families in Israel can't afford to choose food based on fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole carbohydrates. Children whose meals are based on white bread, chocolate spread, cottage cheese, cornflakes, and pasta are not uncommon in Israel in 2019. The result is more children in poor families suffering from diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. The treatment of diseases requires the allocation of economic resources from these families, and the health of the children also affects their scholastic achievements, their social situation, and makes it difficult to escape the cycle of poverty. The government, for its part, continues to set a minimum wage that is cut off from the height of the healthy shopping basket and determines price controls for unhealthy food. Marking products saturated with sodium and sugar - has not yet been implemented. Language:
