Rally For Equal Rights For Caregivers
Uploaded: 04/01/2014 Duration: 1:42 Minutes Available in Hebrew
Story
For Human Rights Day and International Migrants Day, caregivers in Israel called on the Israeli government to adopt Convention C189 of the ILO for equal rights for domestic workers. The Convention defines the right of equal labor rights for all workers, the freedom of choice between employers and the prevention of illegal brokerage fees charge. Today, caregivers pay some $8,000 on average as brokerage fees (illegally) to recruitment agencies to obtain a visa to work in Israel. In addition, caregivers are employed 24 hours a day but only receive the minimum wage and are the only group working in Israel that is not entitled to payment for overtime.
