Talk
Hallel Rabin, a conscientious objector, spent two terms in Prison 6 for refusing to serve in the army. A few days before returning to the ICRC to refuse for a third time, she was interviewed by Social TV and justified her decision to refuse in public, after the IDF Conscience Committee was not persuaded to dismiss her. Adam Keller sent me this. He forwarded me an email about her situation that did not quote her. I challenged Adam on their using her like that. So he sent me this video. Her mother is a civics teacher. She says Israel is in a "tough" "security" situation, it needs an army, and yet she also has a "willingness to understand the basis of the fighting here". You should have asked her, if Israel became a state of all its citizens, and if all the Palestinians were recognized as citizens, making Jews the minority, would Israel live in such a tough neighborhood? At this moment, do you think Trump's peace deals with UAE, Sudan, etc., are designed to inflame the Arab world to throw off its dictators? Does Netanyahu's participation with Trump infuriate you for that very reason, not for corruption, etc.? Josh Reuben of Campaign to End the Occupation (rebranded as something now) said maybe seven years ago that there was no peace movement in Israel. It appears to continue to be the case. Uri Avnery would have continued to say, "I know what's reasonable but everybody else here is crazy." If the interviewer had asked the refusnik, "Is everybody in Israel crazy?", it would have been interesting to see,and perhaps hear, her response. Would she have doubted her own sanity? Her face would have told a very "dark-corner" illuminating story. I think the story of Israel is that it was a NATO cat's-paw, aimed at Asia. And now the invasion of the rest of Asia from the European bump on its western end is being called off, leaving Israel to be demobilized if not worse. Ask her that on camera and audio.
